Outdoor billboards command attention within a limited geographic area and efficiently reach a broad area. They make an valuable addition to any advertising plan.

A billboard normally has seven seconds or less to communicate your message. Billboard design requires a unique creative approach. The right ad can literally drive business to your dealership.

Advantages:

  • Reinforces other print media advertising
  • Offers large market coverage.
  • Large size helps promote name recognition.
  • Ability to target specific geographic areas
Disadvantages:
  • Space is rented in 30 day increments, but multi-month contracts are required by most outdoor advertising companies.
  • Growing clutter on some roads. Too many billboards distract from each other.
  • Limited to a short simple message, maximum of seven words.

Purchasing Outdoor Advertising :

  1. Tour your market area and make notes of the boards on which you would be interested in having your advertising messages posted. Most companies number their boards so make note of them if available. Contact your outdoor sales representative and he will be able to discuss board availability and the number needed to reach your goals. .
  2. Ask for boards located on major traffic routes and where traffic is required to stop.
  3. Request boards located on right-hand side of road, no more than 400 feet from traffic and at a 30 degree angle from the roadway.
  4. Remember printed boards should be reposted every 30 to 60 days in order to look their best.
  5. Painted boards and computer printed vinyl boards are most effective for delivering long term messages, lasting up to one year.
  6. Make sure all your requests are included in writing on your advertising insertion order or the outdoor advertising contract. If they do not follow your instructions, you are entitled to some cost adjustments.
